This course is an introduction to UPMC patient safety and quality education for physicians and APPs. This course is comprised of an independent, virtual component that is a precursor to a live, interactive virtual session with discussion of patient safety concepts in the context of case studies.

Goals of Care Conversations Education Series
This series consists of three modules that will assist physicians and other health care providers in having effective goals of care conversations with patients using the REMAP communication framework. The modules should be completed in the order listed below as the content builds and progresses with each module.
Reframing and Responding to Emotion (Module 1)
This is the first of three modules that teaches physicians and other health care providers how to conduct goals of care conversations with seriously ill patients using the REMAP framework (Reframe, Emotion, Map Values, Align with Values, Propose a Plan). This course focuses on reframing (discussing prognosis and the big picture) and responding to emotion.

Mapping Values (Module 2)
This is the second of three courses that teaches physicians and other health care providers how to conduct goals of care conversations with seriously ill patients using the REMAP framework (Reframe, Emotion, Map Values, Align with Values, Propose a Plan). This course focuses on questions we can use to understand a patient’s values.

Aligning and Proposing a Plan (Module 3)
This is the third of three courses that teaches physicians and other health care providers how to conduct goals of care conversations with seriously ill patients using the REMAP framework (Reframe, Emotion, Map Values, Align with Values, Propose a Plan). These courses are for the independent learner looking for an introduction to the
QI process or who have some experience with QI but need help to make projects more successful. These classes provide knowledge, skills, and tools to help participants understand QI principles and begin a QI project.
